Bookworms Unite

Wrighty is a very nice visitor who always makes time to drop in to see me. When she said I had been tagged, I had to look up the meaning. The Old Lady Next Door is always quick to point out how she's more comfortable with her hands in dough than on a keyboard.

So it seems I am to open the closest book to me to page 56. Then I write out the fifth sentence as well as the next two to five sentences before passing this on to five blog friends.

I don't think I have five blog friends so if you would like to participate, just let me know so I can add you in. I want you to get credit where it's due and maybe I'll make a new friend in the process.

For my own book, this little post I made on the Irondale Cafe being the inspiration for the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" motivated me to get my Fannie Flagg books out again. This excerpt comes from the book that shares the same name as the movie:

Evelyn had been forty when her mother died, and after that, the fear started. Now, when she read the morning paper, she turned immediately to the obituary column, even before she read her horoscope. She was always pleased when the person who had died had been in their seventies or eighties, and she loved it when the dear departed had been over ninety; it made her feel safe somehow.

I can't tell you how many times I've read this book. It's not my favorite Fannie Flagg book but she just hasn't written enough books for me to only read them once or twice.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Knock, knock! I hope you didn't mind that I tagged you but I admire your blog and reviews and always enjoy myself here. It's just for fun and I decided to give it a try and see if I could do it too. It was fun but I'm sure it took me longer than anyone else in the history of blogs. I love Fannie Flagg's books too! Tomatoes wasn't my favorite either but I think it was my first. I think I've read all of them and if I remember correctly "Can't Wait To Get To Heaven" is my favorite. She creates such a homey community and I get pulled into the story every time. I'll have to reread some of those. Thanks for reminding me of some of my favorite books.

Gracious, no. I don't mind one bit. I'm flattered you thought of me.

My personal favorite is "Standing in the Rainbow" but "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven" runs a close second. After my Wordless Wednesday post, I pulled all of Fannie Flagg's books out of a box and they now sit next to my bed so I can catch up with some of my favorite characters. They do remind me of a more simple time when I was growing up.

Thanks for dropping by again. I do hope you enjoyed your visit as much as I enjoyed having you over.
